Key breastfeeding essentials include: a good nursing bra (at least 3), nursing breast pads (washable or disposable), a nursing cover for feeding outside home, a nursing pillow for positioning support, and nipple cream for soreness. These form the core breastfeeding kit for new mothers.

WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months, followed by continued breastfeeding alongside solid foods until at least 2 years. The decision to continue or stop is personal and depends on the mother and baby's needs. Even a few months of breastfeeding provides significant benefits.

Key signs of adequate intake: baby is gaining weight as per growth charts, has 6+ wet diapers per day after day 4, appears satisfied after feeding, and is alert and active. If you're concerned about supply, consult a lactation consultant — low supply is often addressable with the right support.

Expressed breast milk lasts: 4 hours at room temperature, 4 days in the fridge (4°C), and 6 months in a deep freezer. Always store in sterile containers or breast milk bags. Thawed milk from the freezer should be used within 24 hours and never refrozen.
