FAQs for Baby Teether

Provides answers to a list of typical questions that users might ask
When do babies start teething?

Most babies start teething between 4 and 7 months, though some start as early as 3 months or as late as 12 months. Signs include increased drooling, chewing on hands and objects, swollen gums, and fussiness. The lower front teeth usually come first, followed by the upper front teeth. Having a teether ready from 3-4 months means you're prepared when symptoms begin.

Can I put a teether in the fridge to cool it?

Yes, placing a silicone teether in the fridge for 15-20 minutes before use provides gentle cooling that soothes inflamed gums. Never put a teether in the freezer as freezing makes it too hard and can hurt the gums. Only refrigerate solid silicone or wooden teethers — avoid refrigerating teethers with liquid-filled centres as temperature changes can cause them to crack.

How do I clean and sterilise a teether?

Clean silicone teethers by washing with warm soapy water and rinsing thoroughly, or placing in the top rack of the dishwasher. Sterilise by boiling in water for 3-5 minutes or using a steam steriliser. For wooden teethers, only wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry immediately — do not boil or soak as this damages the wood. Inspect teethers regularly and replace if you notice any cracks or worn areas.

Are silicone teethers better than rubber teethers?

Food-grade silicone is the preferred material for baby teethers. It is non-toxic, durable, odourless, and easy to sterilise. Natural rubber is also safe but can cause allergic reactions in babies with latex sensitivity. Avoid PVC or hard plastic teethers that may contain BPA or phthalates. Our ultra-soft silicone teether is made from 100% food-grade silicone with no fillers or additives.
